The problems afflicting the euro zone have cast a long shadow over global finance in the period since the onset of the global financial crisis. Issues relating to burden sharing among countries, institutions and their shareholders, those holding bonds and bank deposits, and taxpayers are still to be resolved. Moreover, the ongoing crisis in the euro zone has cast doubt on core elements of the European project itself. This roundtable will assess the current situation in the euro zone and its implications for the global financial system and Europe’s future role.
