The AMSE Master is a two-year Master programme in Economics organized by Aix-Marseilles University, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, and Ecole Centrale de Marseille. It aims to provide high-level courses and training in the main fields of specialization of AMSE: Development Economics, Econometrics, Public Economics, Environmental Economics, Finance / Insurance, Macroeconomics, Economic Philosophy, Health Economics.
It attracts about 100 students per year. Candidates from all countries are considered for admission. After completion, Master graduates have job perspectives in business, public administration, international organizations, teaching, and research. The Master also selects a number of students who enter the AMSE PhD programme.
The AMSE Master is associated with very well-established firms and institutions. Socio-economic partners manage courses and seminars. They also offer internships to first- and second-year students.
English is the official teaching language of the AMSE Master. However, the AMSE Master offers a unique degree in Economics, which allows the students who are unfamiliar with English to learn this language progressively. The first term and a large part of the second term of the first-year M1 are entirely available in French and in English. All courses are given twice, one in French and the other in English. By the end of the first-year M1, all students must follow four 24-hour courses in English. In second-year M2, all courses are given in English. To help students, all lectures are available in pdf format. It is assumed that students use them during the lectures.
The AMSE Master also offers free training to the internationally recognized TOEFL examination. Participation to training sessions is optional and made on a voluntary basis.
The AMSE Master puts the emphasis on economic modelling; students must be prepared to learn technical tools. Students who dislike quantitative methods should not apply for the programme. However, models are never exposed for the sole theoretical beauty and we are especially after students endowed with solid economic intuitions. The first term of the first-year M1 offers two 24-hour courses in Mathematics and in Statistics and Probabilities. The purpose of such courses is to provide the core technical tools needed in the other courses.
The doctoral programme of Aix-Marseille School of Economics (AMSE) brings together more than seventy PhD students. Ten to fifteen new PhD students join the programme each year. They nearly all receive a research allowance, now called a doctoral contract, or work as salaried employees. These PhD students cover all the AMSE research themes (see the research topics of AMSE faculties).
The PhD programme is a member of the European Doctoral Group in Economics (EDGE) with University of Cambridge, Københavns Universitet, University College Dublin, Università Bocconi, Ludwig-Maximilians Universität München.
Doctoral research grants for the 4th year
The AMSE proposes one-year doctoral research allowances for students registered for the fourth year of their doctorate in economics in 2014-2015 and at an advanced stage in their PhD thesis.
The net monthly allowance is 1650€. The deadline for the submission is May 7, 2014.
AMSE also proposes 2-year post-doctorates, with a possible one-year extension.
